As far as the penny is concerned, I throw them away...
They show up in the washer and dryer, and my kids won't even take them anymore. You know, for what they weigh, I won't carry them around in my purse, and it falls in line with my whole paper/plastic initiative. You see, if I can't buy it using paper or plastic, (preferrably plastic), then I don't need it. Hopefully... I will have to think about my logic on that one. However, I reserve the use of checks for those still in the dark ages who don't have merchant services. I say dark ages because come on, the little machines cost very little, and they are just a dedicated line to the internet away from being in the 20th century. After all we have had the internet technology capable of this for ... how many years now???
Now, on the flip side, let's consider spending. I don't want to spend more on anything than I have to. As far as I am concerned, the cheaper, the better, as long as it is made at an acceptable level and it looks pretty, it's good. I would not want to see prices go up just because merchants and retailers decide they have to round up. You know, the only reason they sell everything at those $5.99 and $495 ranges is because then people can mentally say "oh, it was less than $6.00, or less than $500, what a deal..." It might as well be $7.00 or $550, because once you figure in taxes, you are there.
Taxes, now there is a topic to discuss... You want to talk about taxes? How about eliminating the sales tax on food in Utah. There is a petition currently circulating via email to eliminate the sales tax on food. I like the idea. After all, it's not like you get a reduced rate when you buy diet food, or reduce your consumption... The government waistline keeps getting larger, no matter how much we eat. It's a wonder some of us don't dwindle away. Income tax is paid on wages, sales tax is paid on every purchase under the sun. How much of our paychecks are really take home? If you were to calculate, FICA, Soc. Sec., Medicare, Sales Tax, and even the tax charged on utility bills, phone bills, etc... How much do you really make? Think about it...
As for that guy that killed the little girl, I could seriously deliberate over allowing the prison system to execute violent offenders such as murderers, rapists and child molesters. There is a standard set in society of what is and is not acceptable. If someone acts out in such a way, chemical castration should be mandatory and execution a 75/25 possibility. You know it is cheaper to bury them than it is to support them for the rest of their lives. We are given no guarantee that our mental capacity is or will be functional when we are born, and there is no way of measuring that either. Would it cause issues, yes, but then what kind of issues are caused when people strangle, and then rape 5 or 6 year old little girls and stick them in plastic containers in their basement? You have to draw the line somewhere... Tolerance can sometimes come too close to acceptance, and lack of repercussion can be interpreted as tolerance at times as well. I think our death penalty laws are not harsh enough. If they were adequate, everyone would think twice before acting out their aggressions...
Who the heck is this Ann lady? And what ever happened to being known for what you believe in, not what you are against? I don't know what attitude she has behind her words, or the tone with which she speaks, but I think that she definitely sounds quick with the comebacks and I imagine her speaking really fast and sharply. -?- Hmmm... This one bears further consideration. I will get back to you later on her...
