This was said by a Republican:

"Congress fails in its duty when we do not probe, when we fail, we do not ask tough questions, and we fail when we do not debate the gate issues of our day. There is no issue more important than war. The war in Iraq is the defining issue on which this Congress and the administration will be judged. The American people want to see serious debate about serious issues from serious leaders. They deserve more than a political debate. This debate should transcend cynical attempts to turn public frustration with the war in Iraq into an electoral advantage. It should be taken more seriously than to simply retreat into focus-group tested buzz words and phrases like “cut and run,” catchy political slogans that debase the seriousness of war. War’s not a partisan issue, Mr. President. It should not be held hostage to political agendas. War should not be drug down into the political muck. America deserves better. Our men and women fighting and dying deserve better."

I would like to see the soldiers who are fighting receive more support and encouragement from citizens that are here state side...  Just taking a moment to show your appreciation for their courage and their sacrifice is worth so much more than we imagine.  We have the comfort of home, food, medical care, financial security.  Imagine the surroundings they are in, and what challenges they have to deal with on a daily basis...  We can and will stand out (from other nations) as being different if we care for them as we should.  Who knows, if the nations leaders see us as individuals moving to support the soldiers, would they not address the issues in order to gain support from all those actively involved?  Would the matter attain higher visibility?  What do you think?

General George Casey, Army chief of staff said that the disent in the US did not hurt the moral of the troops in Iraq.

Kind of undercuts the whining from the right about hurting moral doesn't it.

I support the troops 100% which is why I believe the war is stupid, caused by a bunch of gutless chickenhawks that know nothing about war or strategy.  Read the many articles that abound on this blog as well as other right-wing neocon fanatics and you will find brainless support for a failed and stupid policy.   For those that really care about our troops, will continue to fight for an end to this stupid conflict.

It will be  hard given the colossal stupidity of those running the war, the lack of planning, the ignorance of strategy, but now we are in it and we have to salvage what we can.

The true patriot would have questioned the idiot that called for this war. The true patriot would have demanded a reason for going to war, a plan for continuing the war, and the conditions that would signal the end of the war.  That would have been real support of our troops.
