Fred's Principles

hat tip BMEWS:

We believe to take the measure of a man you must understand his principles. What will be the standards he applies as issues come before him? Fred Thompson has clear principles he has honed through his years of public service. We now have those principles on the Fred08.com website. Here are a few:

  • Individual Liberty. As Jefferson spelled out in the Declaration of Independence, our basic rights come from God, not from government, and that among these inalienable rights is the right to liberty. We must allow individuals to lead their lives with minimal government interference.

  • Personal Responsibility. The corollary to liberty is responsibility. No society can succeed and thrive for any duration unless free people act in a responsible way. All of us must take responsibility for our actions and strive to improve our own lives and to contribute to building a better society.

  • Federalism. Our Constitution innovatively guarantees our liberties by spreading power among the three branches of the federal government, and between the federal government and the states. In considering any action by the government, we must always ask two questions: is the government better equipped than the private sector to perform the task and, if so, what level of government (federal or state) ought to do it. Washington is not the seat of all wisdom.

  • Traditional American Values. A healthy society is predicated on belief in God; respect for all life; strong families centered on the institution of marriage—the union of a man and a woman; and self-respect and tolerance of others. While we are all free to live our lives in the pursuit of our own happiness, the government has a responsibility to respect the right of parents to raise their children and to promote the values that produce the strongest society.

These principles will guide a Thompson administration. What do you think?

I like this guy more and more.

It is not secret to this site that I support Fred. I like that he is addressing issues that I feel are important when others are stuck in the Iraq pot hole of politics. I like that he wants to get back to basics, focus on who in our country has what responsiblity and so forth.

He's a politician so I don't trust him.  Sure, this is what he says but it's what he'll DO that defines him (sorry, I couldn't pass that up).  With the current political climate in America I don't trust anyone who claims they are a "public servant".

So all I have to say is this - Nice rhetoric, Fred.  Do you have the guts to back it with actions?

You guys know i'm for hillary.

now that that's over... goose. are you telling us that your one of the silent masses that ends up not voting because nobody is worth voting for? if what you say is the norm, why should we continue voting? why not turn the government over to Anakin Skywalker who thinks that somebody should be there to "make" the rest of us accept "wise rule". If we can't believe what the delegates tell us, then what do we believe???? or have we been fooling ourselves for over 200 years now???

Interresting what Newt says about the GOP candidates.

At times I wonder if the African-American debacle in the US will end up being the pivot point of politics in the next couple years.

Melchor, I vote.  I think that everyone should vote.  I just vote for the person who I think lies the least and will do the least bad job.

"If we can't believe what the delegates tell us, then what do we believe???? or have we been fooling ourselves for over 200 years now???"

The unrest that lead to the American Revolution began well before the Revolutionary War ever began.  In fact, Nathaniel Bacon led his rebellion against the House of Burgesses (the Virginia government in Jamestown) in 1676, a full hundered years before we claimed independence!

We have not been fooling ourselves for 200 years.  Representative government is the best form of government that humans can devise.  And when those representatives are democratically elected that makes it even better.  My dissalusion with our "representatives" is that they have become a modern aristocracy who care very little about their constituents.  This has been a growing trend since the 1950's.  The Federal Government has gotten too big.  It has become a machine bent on supporting its self and not the citizens that it is supposed to serve.

Example: Supposedly the American people said that we wanted a change in government as we gave the House and Senate to the Democrats.  The Democrats were promising change and reform, an end to lobbyists and so forth.  What is the current approval rating for the House and Senate, 11%?  So the approval rating has actually gone down since we voted for this "change".  So my question to you is what has changed?  The answer - the governments approval rating, it has gotten lower.

Indeed, the road to hell, and to the White House, is paved with good intentions.

For anybody who is interrested to see what Fred thinks about issues and what he does, take a look at this link. It is where Splitt found Fred's Principles.
