Well I think it is ok being that it is Illegal to use Steriods and Baseball was doing nothing about the problem. Many kids have used steriods because they percieve that it is ok becasue many in the majors have used them. I think that if Baseball would have pulled their collective head out 10 years ago when this became a major problem congress would not have done anything or needed to do anything. Something needed to be done to get this problem under control Baseball is still not really doing anything. It can't just be the team it has got to be the players as well they have to be willing to say enough is enough we don't want cheaters playing and allow the league to test the players but the players union wont allow it.
I think they should kick all of the players that have used Steriods or HGH out of Baseball no suspensions just kick them out for the good of the game.

I see Splitt's point. Even though I think steroid use is wrong and I agree with Cougar that the players (in any sport) that use steroids should be expelled, I also question that Congress should be policing this issue. They are asking the justice department to look into something that we all know is happening, is against the law and should have been dealt with through the justice department (executive branch of goverment) and the courts (judicial branch). Maybe Congress should use their resources to make law instead of execute it.

The problem is that everyone else has droped the issue and some one needs to push this issue and make sure we are enforcing these laws.

i'm with Desch.  Although the steroid use in baseball is wrong (i guess), why is the governement involved. Is baseball a state or federal organization? no.  Is steriod use a federal crime? no. Is steriod use a state crime? no. So are they only violating a private policy in a privately held organization? yes.

So once again, why is Congress involved?

Actually Steriod use without a prescription is a crime and has been for almost 30 years. Not one baseball player has a prescription for the steriods so yes they have broken the law.

Congress probably shouldn't be involved here but no one else would do anything. Major League Baseball by doing nothing was sending the message to kids that it was ok to break the law and use steriods because they have allowed this to go on and have done nothing. So Congress decided they needed to get involved to get something done right or wrong I don't care so much if they can make a difference and get the message out that if you do this you will be punished so that kids won't use steriods to try and get ahead.

This is all a matter of who is responsible. Since drug enforcement is a Fed issue (that is what the DEA is for), the Feds may have jurisdiction (especially with Major League Baseball, NFL and NBA being interstate businesses). However, does Congress really have the constitutional authority to investigate crime? Last I checked, it was the executive branch that has this responsibility.

We complain when the Judicial Branch legislates from the bench. We even have grief when the Executive Branch tries to legislate laws. We should also be wary when we see the Legislative Branch try to execute and try the law. Therefore, we should be asking the executive branch why they have been doing nothing about this serious drug problem (especially when our chief executives have declaired war on drugs).

They are horse and bovine roids. Just the sound makes me want to eat grass.
